Got an API Contest Idea?

Thinking Wufoo Robot

Hey ya’ll! Next month we are going to be hosting a super rad contest for developers. To enter, developers simply need to build something cool using our API. You’ll have to wait and see, but we think you’re going to like the prizes =)

We have some ideas of our own we’re going to throw out there to help get those developer brain juices flowing:

– Design an interface to view entries in a calendar view
– Integrations for other web services
– Plugins for other web applications
– Mobile interfaces for viewing or searching entries
– Exporter to different formats

Those are fairly vague. Specific ideas are great too, like:

– Create an app to build printable PDF nametags from event registrations
– Build a robot that will pull a rope to ring a bell when a certain form is submitted
– Integrate with a third-party app like [QuickFuse](http://quickfuseapps.com/ “QuickFuse Application”) to create a sophisticated Web-2-Lead calling system.

You don’t have to be a developer to have a cool idea of something you’d like to see built from Wufoo data. **We’d love to hear your ideas!** We’ll be collecting the best of them to suggest to developers interested in participating in the contest.

Feel free to leave them as a comment below, tweet us @wufoo, or write us on Facebook.

  • If you’ll provide edit and/or delete functionality via the API, I bet you’ll see some really cool stuff! 🙂

  • Neat to have capability to design a 1-person report format with response to sender such that when an individual submits form, a copy of the formated information is sent to their email address for them to confirm correct information was submitted.

  • QuickBooks would be awesome! Also, if those completing multi-page forms could view all of the pages before completing it that would be very user empowering and probably increase user-completion rates.

  • ability to pull data from multiple forms, and manage the results in 1 area in the entry manager, as opposed to 1 form, 1 dataset

ability incorporate forms into reports, so that feedback can be given on a report

ability to alter the content of the email when emailing an entry from the entry manager

ability to display comments from entry manager to reports

  • Recurring Payments (Reculry Connection)
    1) Form a connection with either Recurly or Charify. 2) Place checkboxes next to each payment box in the Payment area asking if this is a recurring charge (if not checked then its a one time fee). 3) Have it so on the Checkout page it shows one time fees at top and recurring charges below.

Here’s an example of how I would use this. I could ask my customers if they want to pay for my trip in full or monthly. If they choose monthly, I could have some if then statements to bring up the correct fields for a one time charge for the deposit and then a recurring subscription charge. Then when the customer gets to the end of the checkout it would state… One time fee of $500 today, recurring of $133/month.

  • Mail merge so that form could be precompleted by a user. We could manage school registration this way. If the user entered their phone number, the form answers would be populated with our existing data. The user could update as necessary and submit the form.

  • That should have said precompleted for a user.

  • Insert Pictures / Video:
When using the form for a voting platform or selling products, it would be VERY handy to have thumbnails next to the fields…

  • Create a wufoo form via API.

We have a service that we want to enable our customers to create basic forms/landing pages. Rather than building our own, we’re exploring can the API allow us to generate it for them and extract relevant data without leaving our application.
